Dance Band Plays Special Engagements Dave Price, Sue Curtis, and Diane Smith practice for the Band F estival. Besides having the pleasure of making lively music, Sexton's Dance Band per- forms upon request at civic functions. This year it played at a service club luncheon at the Jack Tar and provided memory music for the Silver Anniversary ceremony. Banol Sells Candy to inance Trip to Dallas Lions Convention The Concert Band practices a variety, of music including novelty numbers, pieces featuring soloists, popular music, and serious concert music. Activities for the concert band were the district Solo and Ensemble Festival, the district Band Festival, the spring concert, and selling candy to finance the trip to Dallas to play at the Lions Convention. Selected members of the concert band played for the Old Newsboy's paper sale, the Chamber of Commerce, and at Sextonis 25th anniversary celebration. Promoting school spirit was one of the duties of the Pep Band, which consisted of concert band members. The pep band played at all pep assemblies and home basketball games. Urehestra Rehearses or pring Concert The Sexton orchestra scored its first success this year with the per- formance of Handel's Messiah. Much time was spent in rehearsal for the all-school musical, Annie Get Your Gun, and for the spring concert. The string orchestra, which meets daily, is complemented by band members at practices and performances. ' Members of the Band watch as Tom Davidson and John Lee change from Band uniforms to Orchestra uniforms. Many Band members are used to supplement the Orchestra.
