vw' One of our autumn guests, Mother Aline, a French Benedictine, stepped out of Clare Booth Luce's Come to the Stable into the heart of Saint Marys to tell us her own story of founding a house of cloistered Benedictines in America. This year was high-lighted with contribu- tions from many other well-known person- alities. Maisie Ward Sheed brought us the eagerly awaited account of the Church in France which we had expected from the witty and unpredictable Bruce Mar- shall who told us how to write novels in- stead. We became acquainted with Saint Thomas Aquinas, the teacher, through Dr. Joseph Pieper's talks. Irving Cobb's daughter, 'Elizabeth Rogers, introduced us to one of her best friends, St. joseph Cu- pertino, and told us of his part in her conversion. SISTER AGNES CECILE WITH A GREAT Books DISCUSSION 'M' G' rwifafion fo oaarning ana! cfion The spirit of helpfulness was the inspiration of the Guidance Program offered at Saint Marys this fall. Pre- pared by the members and majors of the various de- partments, colorful displays gave the underclassmen an opportunity to familiarize themselves with the materials and books related to the courses of their major interest. Faculty members were generous with their time in ex- plaining the aims and objectives of each program of study. Anything from A to Z, Aristotle to Zachariah, with a liberal sprinkling of Aquinas, stimulates the animated discussions at the Great Books meetings. This group represents one of the many extra-curricular activities providing an exchange of ideas between Saint Marys girls and South Bend business and professional men and women.
