I L , Qs'-iff V fi: -M A 'IUWB wunnv-nad' -lf H- The Caledonia Junior Class presented a three-act play entitled Spooky Tavern , on November 9, 1952, in the school gym with the cast as follows: Lon Hacker, George Cochrang Ghost Woman, Jeanne Smithg Lucy Hacker, Jo- anne Hoffmang Joyce Wingate, Marion Deickertg Florabel Wingate, Selorus Tomling Bedelia, Dixie Detwilerg Ralph Channing, Kenny Gilliamg Terry Tan- ner, John Kightlingerg Willie Worgle, James Caing Blackie Simms, Francis Lyon: Farone, John Wells. When Joyce Wingate brought her younger sister and her colored mammy, Bedelia, out to Old Mill Tavern on a stormy evening, witha view to buying it, turning it into a tea room and calling it Spooky Tavern, she started something. She was followed by three college mates. The hard- faced master of the tavern and his crafty sister did all they could to scare the young people away. A ghost woman, presumably the spirit of a murderess, prowledabout,uttering blood-curdling screams. Here occurred the rendez- vous of two leaders of a narcotic-stealing gang and a dope-peddling college student with a detective from the federal narcotic service on their trail. The excitement was modified by laughs at the superstitious Bedelia and the ghost ridden Freshman. Caledonia representatives to the National Honor Soc- iety are, front row: Senior Velma Lyon, Junior Joyce Ar- tis, Senior Peggy Walter, Back Row: Senior Jim Kirk. Any Junior or Senior who is in the upper third of his class scholasrically is eligible for membership. Other char- acteristics which must be present in their school record are Leadership, Character, and Service. These students were admitted into the society at the annual Marion County Honor Society Banquet held this year at New Bloomington School in April. 34
