The ef- fects of team balance, spirit, and strength did not, however, bear fruit until the second running of the Saginaw Val- ley Meet. At that time, with determination high, our team eked out a championship tie with Flint Central. It was the first tie in Saginaw Val- ley history. Early meets were disap- pointing, with the team losing all Valley encounters while triumphing only over Walled Lake and Cranbrook. Lost through graduation for the '49 season will be Bob Haney and Russ Sandquist.
