H 'Nm SY! rivers, Ed. Run for your life became a familiar cry around the drivers' education department as student drivers' cars went weaving down the street. Drivers were instructed to travel in all areas of the city so they would get a first hand idea of all driving condi- tions. Prospective drivers not only learned the aspects of manipulating the car, they learned the functions of the engine parts, the steps of changing a tire, and the safety rules of the road. Students were given an assignment involving choosing, financing, and insuring a used car. Simulators played an important role in prac- tice driving. These machines simulated actual driving conditions by employing the use of a pro- jector, a movie screen, and mock automobiles. Stu- dents watched the screen and steered their cars accordingly.
