7!ze WMM Qaeda Standing-Mrs. Alspach. Sealed-James Spangler, Richard Henry, James Tyer, Marilyn Boell. The Ninth Grade class at Roosevelt is organized in September of each year with a three-fold purpose: to orientate new ninth grade students, to render service to the school, to give guidance to class members. Each year new ninth grade students from Newark Township School are wel- comed into the class and special effort is made to help them quickly become a participating part of the group. In the field of service one group of boys make up the chair squad, one group of girls manage the Lost and Found Department, another group su- pervises and entertains small children during P.T.A. meetings, and still another group of boys and girls serve as ushers for special school events. In the field of guidance, speakers have been brought to monthly meetings with such subjects as Needs in the Field of Industry, How to Become a Doctor, Possibilities in the Field of Nursing , Sportsmanship in Athletics . Much dis- cussion has been carried on to stimulate the thinking of the ninth grader about his future. To correlate with this are discussions of possible courses of study in high school. Each ninth grader is guided in planning his entire high school course, at least tentatively. Finally the class, through several money-making projects, earns enough to buy a memorial gift for the school, pre- sented at graduation.
