Each member is pledged to contribute original poems, essays, or stories to the Rectangle, the publication of the fraternity. Morn- ingside's chapter, the Gamma Beta Chap- ter of Sigma Tau Delta, has discussed at its bi-monthly meetings this year such writers as Eugene 0'Niell, Agnes Rep- plier, and Sinclair Lewis. The primary purpose of Eta Sigma Phi is to foster an interest in and a friendship with the an- cient classics. During this past year each member has chosen a social or political aspect of ancient life which appealed to her and has written a paper on the subject of her choice which she has read as a con- tribution to the programs. Students who have been worthy of high acclaim for oratory, extemporaneous speaking, and debate are eligible to mem- bership. The question which has been used in the college debates this year is the National Pi Kappa Delta question, Re- solved: That the powers of the President of the United States should be substan- tially increased as a settled policy. According to D the constitution of the fraternity there must be as many meetings during the year as there are members. Nu Chapter has a quota of eight active members. Two alumni of the college have been initiated as members this last semester. The pro- grams this year have centered around con- temporary French and Spanish writers. The three other national fraternities are Alpha Kappa Delta, Beta Beta Beta, and Pi Gamma Mu. Alpha Kappa Delta is the national sociological fraternity. It has as its purpose the promotion of sociological re- search. The Beta Beta Beta has been organized in order to further interest in the field of Biology.
