BARTONIAN Lan1e1 held a th1ee pO1Ht lead at the end of the th11d qualtel the score standlng at 21 18 A fue man defense bs the Barton1ans held the Poets to one po1nt 1sh1le N1olon and Perez shot fleld goals and D1amond looped a foul goal Heubach and Perez featu1ed fo1 Ba1ton wlth Pattelson and Ka mlnsky for the Poets FEB 6 SPRIING HILL TAKES COUNT OF BARTON SCORE 20 6 In a game featured only by rough and tumble play on both s1des the H111 Hlgh School defeated Ba1ton 20 to 6 on the college court The- game resembled a football scr1mmage more than a basketball game and the Hllll3HS prowed more adept at b1eak1ng tackles and shoot1ng fouls Wh1le Barton caged but four po1nts 1n the f1rst half and two 1n the second Sprlng H1ll scored frequently and had a b1g lead through out Petzey Perez of Barton and Pogo Stoke of the H111 were the outstand1ng stars Perez caged a th1rd of h1S team s po1nts and h1s floor work especlally 1n the f1rst half was excellent Stokes showed well both 1n guardmg and 1n floor work and rang four goals FEB 10 LAUREL TRIMS BARTON 37 2 0 D1 playlng a brand of basketball vshlch was wholly unlooked for and uncorklng a barrage of shots wh1ch bew1ldered the Barton lads the Laurel qulntet easlly defeated Barton 37 20 on the Y court No sooner had the game started than a Laurel forward rang a fleld goal and thls performance was repeated n1ne t1mes 1n the flrst half Although forced to play a defenslxe game Barton managed to score seven po1nts but were net er 1n the lead In the second half Laurel doubled her score and added one for good measure Whlle Barton lacked one of doubl1ng her own score Bush was the outstand1ng man on the v1s1t1ng team playlng a fast all round game Randolph Graddlck and Perez played good defenslve games and d1d most of the scor1ng for Barton FEB 12 BARTON 17 WRIGHTS 19 Ou1 old rlvals Wrlghts f1n1shed tvso po1nts up 1n a close game wh1ch had no slow moments and wh1ch was marred only by numer ous fouls The Cadets took the lead 1n the fllst quarter of play and al though frequently threatened held It throughout the game By superb pass1ng Barton several tlmes threatened to take the lead but the Cadets flne defense kept our scor1ng down The Blue and Gold had no t1ouble 1n gett1ng the ball 1nto the enemy te1r1tory but were shy on shootlng the goal In the last stanza Barton knotted the sco1e but It d1d not count dS the tylng goal came a econd 3ft61 the tlmer s wh1stle had blown Taylor and Petzey Perez were the stars of the game and D1a mond and Graddlck also played a steady game Moon Ducote coach L S U refereed the game 1 9 24 I Q Q - . . 1 Q o 1 I - 7 - V 1 1 . 1 U 1 . 19 BARTONIAN 24 Five field goals were the returns of the Barton forwards in the first quarter while the McGillians were only able to cage one goal. Only one field goal w as caged by Barton during the second quarter and McG1lls dropped rn two giving our team a 12 6 decision at the half way mark The second quarter dragged hx without many thrills except when Petzey Perez would double through hrs former teammates and cage a field goal or two the final score ending 20 11 Although being cheered by Pensacola fans for our clean playing we dropped the game with the Pensacola High School on February 24 by a score of 18 13 Pet re Perea actually was cheered more than any other play er on the floor for the fast clean and exciting game he played Pensacolas defense was too much for us We were forced to shoot from the mrddle of the floor and oftrmes these w ere blocked The frye man defense w as display ed rn great style and each Pensacola play er play ed a good game Perez would skirt through the Pensacola defense and would often shoot a goal from the middle of the floor Taylor al o play ed a good game for us FEBRUARY 29 Our quintet Journey ed to Bay Mrnette on February 22 and gavf the team of that place a 19 16 w alloprng The game played on an outdoor court was exceedingly rough at times but the spectators were kept on their toes from the first blast of the whistle Bas Mrnette held a two point lead at the end of the first half the score being 14 12 Rough tactics on the part of both teams made the contest resemble a football game more than a cage battle Pretty work on the part of the Barton forward cut down this lead and at the end of the third quarter the score was 17 15 rn our favor Close guarding kept down scoring on both teams but Perez w as able to cage a field goal while Bay Mrnette only rang a foul goal Barton Barton Barton Barton Barton Barton Barton Barton Barton Barton SCORES Laurel Bax Mrnette Biloxi 'VlcG1ll s Wright s Spring Hill NIcG1ll s Lanier Spring Hill NIcG1ll s 164 Y LY K a tv , s Uv A , K , y . , - K . , . v ,' . -' S, ci J' . . . t ' .
