' ' Future Farmers of America Provide Training in Agricultural Leadership The Future Farmers of America, commonly known as FFA, is the national organization of, by, and for the boys studying voca- tional agriculture in public secondary schools under the provisions of the National Vocational Education Acts. As an integral part of the program of vocational education in agriculture in the public school systems of America, the F.F.A. has become well known. No national student organization enjoys greater freedom of self-government under adult counsel and guid- ance, than F.F.A. Organized in November of 1928, it has served to motivate and vitalize the systemic instruction offered to students of vocational agriculture and to provide further training in agri- cultural leadership. The Collegiate Chapter of Future Farmers of America uses the same paraphernalia and ceremonies as used by the local chapters in high schools. The Collegiate Chapter of F.F.A. at Mississippi State University is sponsored and supervised by the Agricultural Education Department. It is an extracurricular activity having its origin and root as a definite part of the pre-employemnt training of teachers of vocational agriculture. 254

Plant Pathologists Promote the Study of Agriculture The Phytopathology and Weed Science Student Club was organized on February 22, 1964. The objectives were to pro- mote the profession of agriculture and particularly, the fields of Plant Pathology and Weed Science; to develop fellowship among the members of the Department of Plant Pathology and Weed Science; to sponsor certain Departmental activities; and to act as the official agent in representing the students of the Department. Membership was extended to any interested stu- dent of good academic standing in the college of agriculture, who displays both within and without the University unfailing respect for order, morality and personal honor, and the rights of others. Although the Entomology Club has a relatively short history, since November, 1964, it makes up for this in the length of the shadow it casts. The Entomology Club affords its members an opportunity to broaden their scope in the field of ento- mology through informative lectures by guest speakers and an interchange of personal ideas. The Entomology Club puts out a yearbook THE MAROON PROBISCIS which summarizes the happenings of the year in the Entomology Department. The Entomology Club sponsors a Goat Barbecue each semes- ter as well as monthly meetings. The members come to the club with a common interest — Entomology; they leave with a common bond — Friendship.
