Formally and informally, Dean Bevington Reed gives shape to the academic future of MSC. The responsibilities of the Aca- demic Dean are concentrated in three major areas of the college academic program. He administers those matters pertaining to in- struction which involve assigning of rooms, managing supplies and ordering teaching aids. He is in charge of the faculty, both in the recruiting of possible candidates and in handling faculty personnel problems. He also manages the curriculum program - planning new programs and revising old ones. His primary function is the constant improvement of instruc- tion at MSC, a responsibility he shares with members of the faculty and the administration. In addi- tion, his ofiice prepares the quar- terly class schedules and distributes class loads. Dr. Reed is Chairman of the Curriculum Committee, Chairman of the Faculty Senate, and Chair- man of the Student Services Com- mittee, the latter organization deals with matters concerning student welfare, such as the Health Service and the College Book Store. COORDINATE ACTIVITIES Dr. Wissink, Administrative Dean since 1959 and member of the faculty since 1935, serves as a liaison oilicer and represents the administration of college services with the academic program. His functions include responsibility for the Master Calendar for college activities and events, supervision and administra- tion of educational equipment. He is also in charge of college stockrooms, of the College Health Service, and of travel -including the use of state vehicles and the intercampus bus system. DR. MR. CHESTER CARKOSKI Assistant Dean of Students Dr. Norbert Baumgart assumed re- sponsibilities as MSC's Dean of Students in the Fall of 1963. His duties include supervision and coordination of: aca- demic advising program for new stu- dents, student counseling and academic probation and disqualification, extra class activities including: student groups and organizations. He is responsible for the High School Counselor-College Freshman program, the preparation of the student handbook and foreign stu- dent advising. Among other duties are preparation and maintainance of cumu- lative personnel records, direction of the social program, adviser to Student Gov- emment groups, and aiding students in securing part-time employment. Dr. Baumgart's efforts result in the success- ful operation of the student personnel program. Miss MARIE BRUCE frightj Associate Dean of Students Mr. Chester Carkoski, as Assistant Dean of Students, has under his im- mediate direction the task of assisting students with problems associated with the Personnel Office. Along with this he has the responsibility of supervising and coordinating all activities of the resi- dence halls on campus. All reservations for resident hall room assignments origi- nate in the housing oHioe and are certi- lied by Mr. Carkoski. DR. NORBERT BAUMCART Dean of Students N A iq 1 fi 3, 1 Associate Dean of Students, Miss Marie A. Bruce, assists in the counseling program, helping with academic and personal problems. She acts as faculty adviser to Student Social Affairs Com- mittee and the Student Union Commit- tee. She also assists students with the organization of new student organiza- tions and consults with otlicers of campus organizations in an advising ca- pacity. In addition to her varied activi- ties, Miss Bruce helps women students secure part-time jobs, approves won1en's oil campus housing and assists with Freshman Orientation.
