GRADUATIO 1956 0N JUNE 3 at the Vocational School gymnasium Graduation ceremonies for The Class of 1956 opened with the Baccalaureate Service, featur- ing a sermon, The Great Essential, by Reverend Richard J. Hardman. Diplomas were awarded on June 5 by Superintendent of Schools, Dr. Leo Travis, to 757 seniors at graduation exercises held at World War Memorial Field. The Commencement Address, Education Is a Keystone, was given by Dr. Clara Cockerille, assistant superintendent of Armstrong County Schools, and the invocation, by Reverend H. C. Musser. Top honors were awarded to Elaine Paulchak, first in the commercial course, Robert Nahory, first in the preparatory course, and Carole David- son, first in vocational.

In emoriam CARL GORDON BUSH Gordon, a junior from Room 308, was born on May 2, 1940. He died on December 13, 1956. 14 Vice Principal Mr. Harry C. Pry resigned as Student Counselor at McKeesport High on January 25, 1956, to become the Vice-Principal of Har-Brack Senior High School in Brackenridge, Pennsylvania, Graduating from the University of Pittsburgh in 1933, Mr. Pry began teaching English at the George Washington build- ing in 1934, and four years later came to the High School Building. As a Communications Officer in the United States Navy, Mr. Pry served his country from 1944-1946, and resumed his teaching career in 1947. He became Student Counselor of the high school in 1954. Ideal Seniors Their ideals . . , Joan Manning is crowned Ideal Girl of the Class of 1956 by Bob Virostek, president of the John Shaw Hi-Y . , . Bob, who was also Class President, was the seniors' choice for Ideal Boy . . . The ceremonies took place at the Commencement Ball sponsored by the Hi-Y on June 5, 1956.
