The JV Wrestling team placed second in the Mission Valley League competition last year, but only losing first place by two points. Their record is 11-1 at this mo- ment and they are undefeated 1-O in the League so far. The JV Team received first place in the lst Ill! Annual Keppel Red JV 6-way tournament and second in the 1st Annual Keppel White JV 6-way tournament. 'fff nf, 232fVarsity Wrestling IW' ,f 5 If The Varsity Wrestling team is the defend- ing Mission Valley League champion for '80-'81 and at this point, undefeated in the League for two years. Their overall re- cord has been 17 wins and only 3 losses so farythis year. These wrestlers also took first place in the Cerritos 18-team tournament, second in the University High School 10- way tour- nament, and third in the N. View 32-team tournament. Returning League champs are John Esquivel and John Hidaka. There is no doubt in anyone's mind that the Mark Keppel High Varsity Wrestling team de- serves much praise and respect!!!

Varsity Baseball The Varsity baseball team, coached by Jim Va- lentino, is showing a lot of progress so far in this season. So far, as we went into press, the team had won three games and had shown much potential. This year there are seven pitchers, more than they have had any other year. Seven out of the eight returning lettermen are this year's starters. There are also many young players included on the team that will still have next year to play - Mike Rivera, Javier Melendez, and Peter Gon- zales. Benny Duarte, Richard Espinoza Cboth were All-League players from last yearj, Mike Brown, Tommy Torres, John Rivas, and David Audelo are key players this year. The team has excellent hitting skills, good attitudes, and are very hard workers. Coach Valentino Cwho is assisted by Mike Rodri- guezh says that the team will for sure have a successful season if they keep on playing the way that they have been playing. As we go into press time, there are still fourteen more games that they have to play. Coach Valentino and the whole team feels that the chances are better that good that they will win most of the games.
