tl m e fl .. 'L iii The German-American Partnership Program Since 1974 MRH students of German have enjoyed participat- ing in an exchange program with the Erich-Hoepner Oberschule in West-Berlin, Germany. The purpose of GAPP is to give German and American teenagers an opportunity for an in-depth experience of a foreign culture by living with a foreign family, attending school in the foreign country, and joining with their partners in cultural and social activities. For the MRH participants, the four-week stay in Berlin is pre- ceded by a ten-day bus tour through historic, picturesque Southern Germany. A train then takes the group from West-Germany through communist East-Germany to West-Berlin. In Berlin, stu- dents follow a strenuous schedule of school attendance, cultural and political tours, and social activities with their families and partners. The MRH students return to the States in early Septem- ber, starting their long wait for their German partners, who come to MRH in the spring during their Easter break. The GAPP stu- dents. parents, and teacher work hard throughout the year to make the exchange program a success for both groups, the MRH stu- dents going abroad, and the German partner students and teachers visiting our school and our communities. ,....-'-f-' ' , - If -ii' -' . r ' . - N - 5 5 .
