leve that Baekhand Many try, but only a few succeed. Thir- ty-one students participated in the round robin tournament, hoping to be one of the top six players, in order to make the team. Results of the tourna- ment were used to place players in their teams, but because there was so much talent, they made room for eight addi- tional players. Heather Duhrsen inspired the girls team with her dedication and talents, which led the girls to capture the number one position. Mike Phillips and David Patton's quick ability to move and think combined with their balance, kept these two on top. They were only part of the team, but when the going got tuff they got go- ing, and managed to save quite a few matches. Mrs. Menke's comment on this years tennis team says it all, They are great! it I . , rwt. -.t. , M.

eleing the dawgis paddle Off to a diving start, the Swim team was ahead of the waves. The raw energy produced by the Bulldawgs in the water strengthened both their muscles and their minds. The competition was tough, but not tough enough to break the waves left by our triumphant swim- mers. The many newcomers to one of LCHS's growing sports were welcomed with open arms. The experienced swim- mers from seasons past helped to show them the ropes. The captains for the boys this year are Guy Cienin and Mar- cos Medina. The girls captains are Wen- dy Williams and Tish Reynolds. Many hope to go to state this year either try- 'fiif Q ing to maintain their state titles or cap- ture new ones. Frank Williams, who coaches the Swim team, was very excited about the start of the 1986 season. Mr. Williams was quoted as saying, Our team works quite well as a group and since our first meet was two weeks earlier than last year's, the skills of the team were put to the test early and it showed that we have a lot of potential. Being on the swim team demands a lot from an individual. For instance, their alarms go off at 4:30 AM, they stumble out of bed and jump into a giant bath- tub. They swim for an hour and a half, day after day. After many brutalizing laps in the morning, our swim team heads home to prepare for a long day at school. as 41:53
