serve? as 2 Bit 2 sears!!! This year's volleyball team had PRIDE . and COURAGE. They had a fantastic team and juniors led the pack! Even though the team had ups and downs, our LCHS girls learned a lot throughout the season. Along with new players, came a new coach, Mr. Leu- pold. He has coached many sports, such as basketball, football, tennis, yet he thinks that his girls and volleyball are the greatest! At the beginning of the season Mr. Leu- pold sized up the team by saying, For the most part the girls worked well as a team, considering the lack of exper- ience. Las Cruces High volleyball had plenty of potential and opportunities, they started off slowly, but they all wound up being terrific friends. Our great LCHS volleyball girls had lots of talent and good attitudes. They also played the best volleyball that they could master. 1986 jv volleyball I , . scorecard REGULAR SEASON DAWGS OPP. Mr. Leupold said, lt's the quality, not the quantity that counts. When asked who the MVP would be, he told us, lf we had one, it would be Angela Paz. Angela, a senior, was a returning All-district selection from 1984-85. Potential, discipline, and spirit is what this years volleyball team consisted of. These are all qualities which will eventu- ally lead to great success at Las Cruces High. Although volleyball was rather time consuming and tiring, all members of the team will agree that every inch of their hard work was well worth it. Memories of great times shared on the road and terrific friendships that devel- oped due to participating in volleyball, will remain with all the girls in the years to come. l2lSl2lHg l8F 382l2 Soccer has come into Las Cruces with a KICK! The rough and rowdy kickers at Las Cruces High made up an awesome team in '85-'86. When we went to press, the boys had a superb record of 6-2, playing hard to beat teams such as Hobbs and Eldorado. The girls' record was an outstanding 6-2-l, with more vic- tories expected. The girls' coach, Mr. Hutchinson, was quoted as saying, The strength in our team lies in our youth and speed, but one of our major weaknesses is inexperience. The ex- perience gained this season will prove beneficial in years to come because we have three Freshmen players that start in almost every game, The girls' first loss was against Mayfield whose team consists mainly of seniors. lt's obvious that the girls' soccer team had a great mogordo, whom they defeated 3-2. Mr. Vasquez, the boys' coach, said, Our team has a lot of talent, but we lack consistency. One of our flaws is that we have a tendency of playing on one side. The first game lost by the boys was against Hobbs l-O. Mr. Vasquez was quoted as saying, Hobbs has a well disciplined team, who plays a very ag- gressive and physical game. The game was a well played one by both sides, but as one player stated, We were just out- played. The fan support of both soccer teams has been slow to start, but the parents and students who show up are very row- dy and enthusiastic about the game. Soccer has been a success for both schools in Las Cruces. The popularity of 1986 girls soccer Roswell Carlsbad J' .
