Practice for tournaments and UIL compe- tition is the basic function of the Slide Rule Club. Mu Al ha Thefa PIO P ma The Lamar Mathematics Honor Society, as Mu Alpha Theta could rightly be called, permits its members to broaden their interests in mathematics and bring public recognition to students of superior mathematical ability. To this end, the club sponsored a math tournament and competed in many others, took field trips, had special programs and guest speak- ers at meetings, and sponsored a brain-teaser contest, which was won by Kenny Sopchak.
