J GIRLS SWIMMING Early morning and after school workouts were part of the daily regimen for the LHS girls swim teams. With such demanding standards, Coach Kalani Caldwell made sure her athletes were in top condition to face the many challenges ahead. Re- turning varsity performers Stacey Brown, Melanie Sedlak, Leasia Schutter, and Christina Riedman led the team, and were ably backed up by a number of other talented swimmers. The JV team worked equally hard, and was centered around talented swimmers Toni Cather and Amy Letcher. The combined efforts of the varsity and J.V. teams led LHS to many personal records, top finishes, and an excellent season in 1989. I . Stacey Brown and Joyce Abel had perfect backstroke starts. 2. Winning this butterfly event was standout Kristina Riedman. 3. Leasia Schutter, Melanie Sedlak, Stacey Brown, and Kristina Riedman were launched by the gun. 4. The breast stroke was Leasia Schutter ' s specialty. 5. Nicole Lantaigne came up for air on the way to the finish. 6. The form of backstroker Rachel Bertrand led to first place for LHS. 7. Stephanie Zabala sprinted toward a personal record. 8. Making the butterfly look easy was Tom Cather. 9. Pushing off the wall were Mickie Chaffin and Beverly Ponce. 10. The Girls Varsity Swim Team. 11. Kimmie Lee headed for victory in the freestyle. 12. The Girls Junior Varsity Swim Team. 1 3.
