J BOYS SWIMMING Although the boys varsity swim team was small in number, they obviously made up for it with quality performances. Coach Mike Caldwell en- couraged dedication and punctuality from his swimmers, and in return, he molded outstanding athletes. The varsity team was paced by Todd Ashley, James Cortz, and John Bobo, whose con- sistency led the Lancers to many key victories during the season. The sophomores showed excellent promise dur- ing their season. Top times were turned in by Britton Penrose, Robert Klein, and Kevin Kehoe, who led the sophs through the many challenges of their first swim season at LHS. The early morning workouts were difficult, but Lancer swimmers were convinced that hard work would pay off in a suc- cessful year. 1. James Cortz butterflied toward the finish line. 2. A perfect back dive was displayed by John Bobo. 3. With intense con- centration, Tim Claric tool the lead. 4. A quick turn helped Jason Ray improve his time. 5. Rich Medina demonstrated excellent breast stroke technique. 6. Strong dives by Matt Hutchinson and Kevin Kehoe were needed m this race. 7. Britton Penrose splashed his way to a personal record. 8. The determination of the Lancers was evidenced by Mike Mitchell. 9. The Boys Varsity Swim Team. 10. Damon Stevenson started fast during race. 1 1.
