J GIRLS VARSITY TRACK The girls varsity track team lost many outstand- ing athletes to graduation, but the 1989 squad had great expectations for a winning year. The team was young, primarily led by sophomores and jun- iors, but the abilities of the Lady Lancers were evidenced all season long. The distance team was paced by sophomores Lucinda Reyes and Erica Nelson, while the sprinters were led by returning junior Anginell Anderson. Seniors LaToni Rob- inson and Shayla Warren dominated the hurdles, while field event performers Kim Phelps and Char- on Johnson were consistent point scorers in each meet. This well-balanced group worked very hard toward success for the individuals involved, and for the team as a whole. 1. Tiffany Hunt showed off her skill in the high jump. 2. Distance star Lucinda Reyes was out in front once again. 3. The sky was the limit for jumper Rosalyn Favre. 4. Ann Eble and Kim Archer glided over the hurdles. 5. The teamwork of Anginell Anderson and LaToni Robinson led to another Lancer victory. 6. Charon Johnson sprinted past everyone in this race. 7. Long jumper Ann Eble kicked up some sand on her attempt. 8. A quick start was on Anginell Anderson ' s mind. 9. Shayla Warren ' s experience resulted in excellent hurdling technique. 10. The relaxing aspect of track and field was evidenced by Charon Johnson, Nicole Cortz, and Tiffany Hunt. 11. Kim Phelps put forth the maximum effort in the shot put. 12. f GIRLS JV TRACK BOYS JV SOPH TRACK The 1989 LHS girls J.V. tracksters depended upon a talented group of sophomore athletes. Me- lissa Gower, Traci Robinson, and Latice Hutch- ison were the standouts on a team that competed with great effort and determination in 1989. The boys J.V. team was also a young squad. LHS counted on Chris Trimble and Jerome Clinton in the field events, sprinters Nelson Billedo and Rob- ert Floyd, pole vaulter Keith Lewis, and dis- tancemen Matthew Panagos and John Ryan to score the majority of the points. The sophomore boys were led by shotputter Tim Taylor and sprinter Eric Blevins, who performed consistently all season. The development of these young athletes insured a promising future for LHS Track. 1. Anne Boland took charge of her race on the last lap. 2. The starter ' s gun launched Juanelda Joiner and Latice Hutchison toward the finish line. 3. Kim Farr gave it her all in the shot put. 4. Reaching for extra distance was Melissa Gower. 5. Maria Valencia showed the strain of a distance race. 6. The Girls Junior Varsity Track Team. 7. Hurdler Nelson Billedo cleared another one easily. 8. Shane Sprewell took the relay handoff and headed for first place. 9. A sprint around the final turn led to victory for Duane Williamson. 10. The Boys Junior Varsity Track Team. 1 1 . Lamar Wilborn soared to a personal record on this jump. 12. The Boys Sophomore Track Team. Bottom Row (L to R): E. Nelson, K. Farr, S. Clark, M. Valencia, T. Birdsong, L. Anglin.
