Ron Hagmeyer and Henry Scheele led a powerful Lake Forest College Debate Squad to a victorious season of fifty six wins against twenty-four losses. Backing up the two senior champions were the following debaters: Mich- ael McCarthy. Lauren Madden, Margaret Neely. Beverly Hay, Roger Clifford. Leigh Cord. Jerry Ellersdorfer and Philip Zralek. The 1955-56 debate topic for the Lake Forest squad was: Resolved: That the non-agricul- tural industries should guarantee their em- ployees an annual wage. The junior Varsity debate team started off the season with a time showing at a four-way round robin discussion held under the auspices of the Chicago Area Debate Council for begin- ners. The Foresters taking part in this meet were fvlargaret Neely. Lauren Madden, aflirm- ative. and Jerry Ellersdorlier. and Mike Mc- Carthy, defending the negative side. Other schools taking part in this no decision debate were: IQ. of Chicago, Mundelein. North- western. Loyola. IVheaton. Illinois tNavy Pier! and Elmhurst. The junior Varsity also debated with Purdue L'niversitv, winning live to one. and Loyola Uni- versity. Chicago Area Tournament in which their score of seven to one gave them second place. The Varsity debaters enjoyed the most suc- cessful season they've had in years. due mainly to Ron and Hank and their fine showing on the road trips. The record: Bradley L'niversity 4 wins. 4 losses. Northwestern Grand YX'estern Tournament 5 wins. 3 losses. Illinois State Normal. Bloomington 8 wins, 4 losses. North- ern Illinois State College. DeKalb 1 win. 5 losses. University of Illinois at Navy Pier 7 wins, 1 loss. Northwest Debate Tournament. College of St, Thomas. St. Paul 7 wins, 2 losses Qquarter finalistsl. Illinois State Debate Tourn- ament, Illinois College 3 wins, 3 losses. Grand National Forensic Tournament, lX4ary Hash- ington College of the L'niversity of Virginia. Fredricksburg, 9 wins. no losses. Grand National Reserve Champions was the title which Varsity debaters Ron I-Iagmeyer and Hank Scheele received as a result of win- ning second place in the Grand National Foren- sic Tournament at University of Virginia on March 29. 30 and 31. These debaters were awarded certiiicates and seals attesting their prowess in the tournament. a three-day invita- tional affair involving fifty colleges and uni- versities from all over America. 55

The C.C.C. is made up offour major commit- tees. including Study. Recreation. YX'orship and Service. The Study Commission sponsored lNlarriage Forum . a series ol' discussions led lmy Roman Catholic. Jewish and Protestant ministers. and This I Believe discussions held in faculty homes. Also. this committee spon- sored the One God series. which was directed toward lwetter integration of faiths. A very active part ofthe four-group organiza- tion is the Recreation Group. which planned many social activities during the year. Eva Ann Byrnes and Boln Sacek planned a late .-Xutumn Party at the Student Center. a Barn Dance and a very successful Christmas Party. The Vvorship Committee planned and di- rected the religious functions of the group such as their participation in the National Christian College Days. Sponsored hy the National Council of Churches in Christ. it is a day on which students and faculty memliers. as repre- sentatives ol' Christian colleges. take part in Sunday morning worship services and young peoples' meetings in the Chicago area.
