Valleg has irouble wiih iake-off in Rockei Cuig Jones Valley Brownies, after a great season, made it to the State Playoffs. The elimina- tion rounds were in Montgomery and Huntsville, with Lanier playing Guntersville and I. V. tak- ing on the Rebels of Butler. During the first half, Butler took the ball across the goal twice to command a 14-point lead. Although the distance from Birmingham to Huntsville is about one hundred miles, loyal Zfwf, f 2 ta Brownie fans showed up in large numbers. They - s N felt a bit ill at ease since standing and cheering ,Q 1 X were verboten. C .ft 31 A valiant effort by the J. V. team in the second half was not enough to overcome the lead sustained by the Rebels. Brownies left L Huntsville a bit sadder Q20-131, but still proud to be the first team to represent Birmingham in the State Playoffs.

For the past two years, the Jones Valley- Banks game has played a major role in the State standings. Our defeat of Banks last year caused them to lose a berth in the State Play-Off, and Banks hoped to retaliate by defeating us. A determined Brownie squad planned to collect the reward of a winning season--a State Play-Off berth. The Brownies won this place in one of the THOSE exciting games this school has ever seen. Both teams fought hard all night, al- though Banks picked up 6 points in the third quarter. With only a few minutes left in the game, Valley found itself 82 yards away from a touchdown. Brownies knew then it was time for the tough to get going! With the help of Jimmy Martin's leadership, they picked up those 82 yards. Martin collected 44 of them, with the last one being a one- yard drive for a touchdown. With 28 sec- onds left the game, Pitts added the winning extra point. That extra point gave Jones Valley its place in the State Play-Off.

ROW 2: Max Harbuck, Lamar Branum, Mike Manley, Johnny Gardner, Mike Walls, Jerry Miller, Chuck Waldrop, Jimmy Gentry, Bill Butler, Jarvis McGee. ROW 3: Tommy Borroughs, Donald Bearden, Dwight Mayfield, Phil Screws, Joe Bur- roughs, Joel Grubbs, Barry McGee, Gary Pratt, Randy Flynn. ROW 4: J. T. Woods, Gary Byram, Ronnie Payne, David Williams, Philip Bowling, Ken Colvert, Craig Thomas, Ron- nie Driver, Bobby Britton. 87 After a slow start, the B-Team came on to win two and tie one of their last four games. The team's season record was 2-3-1, but this did not show the hard work put into the daily practice. B-Team expects a better sea- son next year as there are many members of the squad who will be returning.
