The Presiclentis Yearbook Me.9.s11ge Make a Difference in Your World Many of you are, or will be, engaged in some form of public service. Whether it be in law enforcement, the other fields of criminal justice or in public administration, I would like to think that your time at ,Iohn lay will have prepared and inspired you to make a difference in the system in which you will work. Public service has fallen upon hard times. The relentless assault of inflation upon the finances of our city and state governments has led to the all-too-familiar cuts in the delivery of services. As police, fire, educational and all public personnel are reduced, the public need, and, in fact, demand for protection and service goes on. In the absence of dollars to meet these needs, we must provide higher quality people - or to use a more charged phrase, higher productivity. We at John ,lay must educate individuals who can understand the problems and find innovative solutions to them in more sophisticated and less costly ways. It is to this need which our College addresses its highest priority. It is with this urgent need in mind and my unswerving belief in our students that l wish you all happiness and success in your lives and careers. Think highly of yourselves and please make o difference in this society which so desperately needs you. Supreme Court Justice Felix Frankfurter may have had us in mind when he wrote: IN LAW ALSO, MEN QAND WOMENJ MAKEA DIFFERENCE. Gerald Lynch President of John ,lay College of Criminal ,lustice
