Elon outswam High Point 1 9-0 in a contest which was played under the most unfavorable conditions possible. The field was soggy to begin with, but virtual cloudbursts throughout the game made the condition of the field even worse. Such conditions hampered greatly the most effective weapon of the Panthers, their passing game. The Panthers ran over an outclassed Guil- ford eleven 25-6 on the night of November 8 and next week-end Eastern Carolina Teachers fell 6-0 when Joe Petack plunged over from the five-yard line. The season ended somewhat in the manner of a letdown as Newberry drove over the goal line for 45 points while the Panthers were getting nowhere. Newberry had one of the strongest small college elevens in the South, so this is a partial explanation for the poot showing of the Panthers. [891

The Panthers emerged from a tough ten-game schedule with five wins, four losses, and one scoreless tie. A fine spirit prevailed on the squad through- out the year and this spirit, coupled with that of the student body, was in no small measure responsible for the vast improvement in the team ' s play. The season opened with a scoreless tie against a heavier Wofford team. Lenoir Rhyne capitalized on two breaks to defeat the Pan- thers in the second game on the schedule, 12-0. The Yowmen trekked to Norfolk next week-end and showing a burst of power and speed humbled the Norfolk William and Mary aggregation 33-0. The season ' s North State Conference cham- pions, the Catawba Indians, exhibited the slickest passing attack the Panthers faced all season and turned back the locals 24-0. The squad then upset a favored Emory and Henry eleven 7-0. In probably their best of- fensive game during the year, the Panthers defeated Western Carolina Teachers College 188} n
