MISS HABBIET A. SPINK Miss Harriet A. Spfhk, superv lsor of v ocal muslc, ls retlring from the Hlcksvllle school system this June, after thirty-one years of loyal service. When Mlss Splnk first came to our schools, she was the entire music department, vocal and instrumental, in the two elementary schools, as well as he junior and senior high schools. Mr. Charles Gouse, now supervisor of instrumental music was ln classes of Miss Spink all the way through elementary school and high school. She has had in class also numerous sons and daughters of her former students. Miss Spink maiored in music at Wellesley, where she received the B.A. degree. Later she recelved the B.S. degree in music education from Ithaca, and also the M.A. degree ln muslc education from N.Y.U. She has participated in many music workshops, including the National Music Camp at Interlocken, Mich. She spent one summer at the American Conservatory in Chicago and two summers at the Royal Conservatory in Toronto, Canada.. She ls a. member of the National Association of Teachers of Singing, of the New York Singing Teachers Association, and of the P1 Lambda Theta, a soclety in the field of education. Before teaching, Miss Spink was a free lance singer for ten years, engaged as soloist in churches and synagogues and professional choruses in the New York City area. Miss splnk will engage in priv ate voice teaching and will hold private classes ln Carl Orff music for children ln her home. She also plans to have some free time for travel. This summer she will spend in the British Isles and Norway. Our best wishes go with Mlss Splnk. Her many ,students and all her colleagues have long admlred her qualities of superb musicianship and will long remember their pleasant associations with her. 242
