Top- ics of discussion for the History Club included the Cossacks, the American Indi- ans, American economics, and Adolf Hit- ler. This is the second year that the History Club has been organized. The club is com- posed of students interested in current events in addition to the history of the world. A secretary was in charge of keeping roll for the monthly meetings. There was a revolving chairmanship, with different members presiding over each meeting. Any student interested in ioining the His- tory Club was eligible for membership. Science Club Begins New Nature Trail The Science Club, along with the Sci- ence and Survival classes, sponsored the nature learning center in the woods behind the school. The half-mile long trail was engineered by the Soil Conservation Serv- ice and was designed to minimize soil ero- sion. Rock dams were installed to form small pools. Wheat, cotton, and oats were planted in a corner of the property. A com- post heap and a soil profile were features of the proiect. Plants native to Arkansas and various other trees and shrubs were identified along the trail. At the twice-monthly meetings of the Science Club, speakers and films were often featured to promote scientific inter- est. Mrs. R. N. Spanish Club Has Vargas At Meeting Rosemary Vargas, an exchange student from Bolivia, was one of the speakers for the Spanish Club. Learning more about Spanish speaking peoples around the world was the main obiective ofthe Spanish Club. Speakers from various Spanish speak- ing countries, slides, postcards, and Span- ish foods were helpful in understanding the cultures of Spain and Latin American countries. El Circulo Espanol met once a month during the school year. Any Spanish lan- guage student was eligible to ioin the club. Mrs. LaVon Yepez and Mrs. John Short were the faculty sponsors.
