Fruit, Shade Trees S old Z0 Raise Funds Early in the school year, the lnkwell staff organized a fund-raising campaign. Fruit and shade trees were sold to raise money to help pay for the publication of Hall's literary magazine. During the first semester, the staff was involved with intensive study of poetry. The second semester was spent studying short stories in addition to organizing and publishing the lnkwell. The lnkwell staff iudged entries and chose selections for publication. The lnkwell was made up of original compositions in the form of poetry, pho- tography, essays, short stories, and art- work submitted by Hall students and fac- ulty. The lnkwell, which was scheduled for publication on May I, was distributed to the student body through the English classes. Mrs. Marion Green was the faculty sponsor for the creative writing class. Science Club Begins New Nature Trail The Science Club, along with the Sci- ence and Survival classes, sponsored the nature learning center in the woods behind the school. The half-mile long trail was engineered by the Soil Conservation Serv- ice and was designed to minimize soil ero- sion. Rock dams were installed to form small pools. Wheat, cotton, and oats were planted in a corner of the property. A com- post heap and a soil profile were features of the proiect. Plants native to Arkansas and various other trees and shrubs were identified along the trail. At the twice-monthly meetings of the Science Club, speakers and films were often featured to promote scientific inter- est. Mrs. R. N. Taylor, Mrs. Catherine Hamil- ton, Mr. Charles Leverett, and Mrs. Dennis Dance were the faculty sponsors of the Science Club Above: SCIENCE CLUB OFFICERS: DAN HINCH, president, PAUL NANCE, vice-president and secre- tary, RICHARD LONG, program committee chairman.
