GIRLS' STATE: SANDRA DEVLIN, Boysi, Girls, tate Occur During June June found Camp Robinson filled with delegates to Boys' State and Girls' State. Five boys and nine girls from Hall attended the annual events sponsored by the Ameri- can Legion Auxiliary. Delegates learned about the country's political system and participated in mock election procedures for city, state, and county offices. Several speakers from various profes- sions spoke to the delegates on political topics. The speakers included Governor Dale Bumpers, Lieutenant Governor Bob Riley, Joe Purcell, David Pryor, and Dr. Jeff Farris. RA Allows Student To Better Skills For the third year the Student Recrea- tion Association offered students the opportunity to learn and improve their skills in games such as chess and bridge. Lessons were given to beginners and advanced players worked on improving their game. Students interested in playing soccer were also members of SRA. They practiced before and after school and played other: soccer teams in the city on the weekends. No formal meetings were held or dues collected. Time was spent playing and enioying the games. Meetings were every Monday morning. Club sponsors were Mr. John D. Williams, Mr. John Diesel, and Mr. Frank Kent. Political Pts. Observed A t N .P. Meeting Political issues were a main topic of dis- cussion at the New Party meetings. Emphasis was placed on presenting differ- ent aspects of the political system and giv- ing the members a wide variety of political ideas and viewpoints. Several speakers addressed the club concerning current political issues as well as possible solutions to social problems. Members discussed the importance of each political party and the role that it plays in the present system. City, county, state, and national govern- ment set ups were also discussed and com- pared for efficiency. New Party met on the first Tuesday of each month. Club sponsor was Mr. A. T. Bell.

Members Club A ct As Santa Claus As its first proiect of the year Future Teachers of America sponsored a Christ- mas Post-Office. Students bought Christ- mas cards and FTA members delivered them on the Friday before the Christmas holidays. National FTA week was observed in March. Each day was filled with an event concerning the roles of present and future teachers. As in previous years, FTA members went to various schools of their choice through- out the city to assist teachers for one day. FTA members also worked for teachers during semester test week. In May a social gathering was held with Parkview's FTA chapter marking the end of the year. i fre 1..
