Pep O'Plant POP Merifs Medalist Honors This year the Pep O'Plant gave students a bi-weekly summary of current news and offered thirty-two staff members an opportunity to display their journalistic talents. One of the most interesting features of the newspaper this year was the editorials. Often controversial, the editorials gave new ideas and suggestions to Plant students and faculty. Another new feature which frequently appeared was a page devoted to nostalgia. This page included stories and photographs reminiscent of the good old days. At the conclusion of each year, school newspapers are recognized for superior achievement. This year the POP was awarded the Medalist and All-American Awards. While keeping the school informed of current events, staff members learned the basics of journalism from lvlr. Robert Stinson, their advisor. National l-lonor Society NHS Tutors Aid Grateful Students During formal inductions held each year in the spring and the tall, some of Plant l-ligh's most outstanding students are ushered into the National l-lonor Society. Chosen on the basis ot their character, scholarship, leadership and service, these candidates must maintain an overall 3.0 average with no grade less than a D for each semester. Active in many programs, many members take up the task ot tutoring as one of their contributions to the school. These tutors cover five major areas, which include math, history, science, language, and English. Membership in this honor club is helpful for students' acceptance into college. From the club's membership of one hundred, and, several delegates are chosen to represent Plant at the state convention. Sponsors Mrs. Mays Estes, Mrs. Florence Segall, and Mr. Danny Rodriguez offer their assistance whenever it is needed.
