1946 - TRACK - 1946 Track in 1946 was well received with about twenty boys reporting forthe opening practices. After the class tournament several boys quit. About twelve boys took part in dual, triangular, quadrangular, and county meets. Of these twelve, ten were letter winners. ' The track team was successful in winning a good percentage of its track meets and placing third in the county. V Three G. V. Track Records were broken. Mel will not be back in 1947. Orville Meeker, a senior, and a two letter winner was a good distance runner. Orville participated in the mile, 880, 4-40, and the high jump. Orville will not be back next year. Bob Heren, a senior, and a three letter winner was an all around track man having participated in about every event. Bob was dependable and will not be back in 194-7. joe Bussone, a junior, and a three letter' winner was a good weight man. joe threw the discus and shot put. He will be back in 194-7. Dale Drake, ajunior, and a two letter winner was very dependable. Dale ran the -hurdles and did the pole vault. Dale will be back in 194-7. Ike Baysinger, a junior, and a two letter winner will be back nest year. Ike ran second to lvielvin in the high hurdles and also ran the dashes and did the broad jump. jim Bowlby, a freshman, won his first letter by placing in the pole vault in the county. He will be backnnext year. Carl Hamilton, Bud Schureman, and Pete Vetter, all freshman, won their letters by placing on the Fresh-Soph. relay team in the county.

1947-TRACK-1947 Returning lettermen this year are very few. joe Bussone, Jim Bowlby, and Ike .Baysinger are the only boys returning who placed in individual events in the 194-6 Tazewell County Track Meet. Carl Hamilton and Bud Schureman won letters by being -members of the Freshman-Sophomore Relay team that placed in the county. joe Bussone, a senior, will be the leading weight man for the track team in 1947. joe placed in the shot put and discus, in the county last year. Ike Baysinger, a senior, will be the hurdler and broad jumper. Ike placed in the high hurdles in the county last year and will be expected to make good this year in several events. Jim Bowlby, a sophomore, will compete in pole vaulting. Jim placed in the county last year in the pole vault and will be in there trying to make an even better showing this year. We also have competing with us a previous letter winner, jim Ary and several un- tried boys who have evidenced an intention and a desire to participate in track this season, namely: Earl Hamann, Dick Chitwood, john Goeken, Marlowe Clauser, Lewis Hamann, Howard Harms, Larry Moehn, Louis Thomas.
