Modern, split-level schools are functional, admittedly, with their boasts of not an inch of wasted space, but is there one whose attic is a maze of beams, cobwebbed nooks, and little places that not even the sun has seen? Is there a modern building whose stairways have been worn into concavities, two to a step, from seventy years of the shuffling feet of ascending students? Cr is there one where you might open an old window in a seldom-used room and find the childish, scrawled signatures of boys who have grown to become pro- fessional athletes, stock-brokers, and bank presidents? We think not. Glen Ridge has had its ivy-covered walls. lts graduating classes have numbered from as few as one in 1904 to over one hundred thirty some sixty years later. lt has published a newspaper and yearbook, both having assumed various titles, for more than fifty years. Tradition grows with age, and pride grows with tradition. Glen Ridge students carry this feelinq of pride, and rightly so. Over the years, we have amassed a record, both academically and athletically, that is recognized and envied through- out the state. Certainly, the ,graduate of G.R.H.S. has been well instructed and equipped in the build- ing of his life's ladder. More important, he leaves school with the awareness that if, in the 'fu- ture, a weak rung should break and he begins a retrogression, he will land only slightly bruised on and fall no further than, his original few steps that were carved, shaped and fitted at Glen Ridge High School.

DEDICATION To us, as seventh graders, he was iust a nameless faculty member. The next year, some of us knew him, some did not, perhaps we best remember his collegiate clothes and casual air. As freshmen, we spoke to him in the halls, knowing him to be an in- tegral part of our upper-school years. When we were sophomores, he warned us of the importance of suc- cess in high school. We listened in awe as he spoke of initiated unknowns such as the N.M.S.Q.T., the P.S.A.T., the C.E.E.B., and the S.A.T. As juniors we took most of these tests, and no matter what our score, it seemed each of us had a fine chance of going to his chosen college. He warned us, taught us, opened our eyes, befriended us, and, above all, directed us when we came to a fork in the road of life. He has worked for us for three years-with overtime in hours and devotion-without asking anything in return, we now give him our most cherished gift. We, the class of 1965, heortened by the realization that we have come to appreciate him before it is too late to say thanks, dedicate our Glenalog to Sidney W. Leggett.
