Wyly The physics department is now be- inning to feel the effects of the curricu- Fa changes of last year. Experimentation with sophomore courses are still pro- ducing material and results for future changes. With the move into its new building, the department is beginning to expand research with the acquirement of new equipment and space. The glraduate program is still flourishing w ile stu- dents do important work in such areas as atomic, nuclear, solid state, and neu- tron diffraction studies. Initiates Exercise Program The purpose of the physical training department here at Tech is to keep the Tech student in shape physically while he goes through the mental strain before graduation. Freshman courses include applications in swimming, track and gym while the sophomore enjoys the more recreational sports of tennis, foot- ball, and basketball, all with slight vari- ations according to the season. This year the department offered a supple- mentary course for juniors and seniors who have completed the requirements of the basic courses. This course in- volved the application of exercise once a week for students who were inter- ested in keeping fit. fi I
