FOOTBALL A group of Edward Little young men reported this past fall to Coach ackie Fisher without awakening a great amount of fanfare. There was little reason as the season s opening drew close to expect that this vias to be a team of destiny. Indeed fate seemed to have given E. L. a severesetback when one of her outstanding boys Francis Parker was sent to the sidelines with a broken elbow. When the experts cast about in the early fall for the teams which they could mark as contenders for state championship honors they passed by the E. L. squad as unworthy of such recogf nition. Nor could they be blamed because there was little evidence of greatness to be found in their practice sessions, Wheii they reviewed the E. L. squad they were seen sadly to shake their heads and murmur regretfully that the glories of a dozen years before had fallen upon such evil days. They were often heard discussing the mythical Galloping Ghosts that had once ranged the gridiron for E. L, and had written their deeds in indelible fashion md st imped themselves with the immortal st imp The Gallopmg Ghosts roamed no more and here were E L boys ready to do their very best They were untested and untried but Coach Fisher had the utmost eonfidenee that they would perform not miracles but work th it at least would be 1 eredit to their sehool They had even been provided with a new st lge upon which to perform for the emerald greensward of Waltcmn field was set beneath the glowing are of our new lighting system But when these young men dressed in their new uniforms made their appearanee under the brilli mt lights of the st rdlum the crowd seemed eleetrified and 1 new spirit of working that told of future greatness As they stormed over the opposition in their first game there were mutterings here and there Had the Cllloping Red Ghosts returned to haunt the giants of the Maine football world?
