Bobcat Band Best Dressed At Trl State Falr The krds went up there to wm Thls ts Director Ralph Smlths comment on wmnmg 1h the Tr1State Falr Band Contest Monday He sand I was really proud of them and a great many people remarked about thexr beautful umforms Mr Smith explaxned further that the band had to march well and play well too to w1n and that they had to wear the umforms well Thls 1S where each of the 70 members comes ln The Dxmmltt Bobcat Band stepped out to a fast march and contmued through 15 blocks of Amarlllo streets Monday to wm S200 and the honor or bemg the best dressed at the Farr They marched ln open competltlon wxth 41 other hlgh school bands from three states from all slzes schools m all classes Eyery group m the event was a fme band Spectators and offncxals agreed tthat thxs was the best contest that the Falr had ever had Followmg the awarding of the prlze the band was mvlted to re turn Saturday as guest Band of the Farr Simpson. ..,,,: Tw! 1-171, RIGHT FACE LEFT FACE If you have been hearing these phrases dont become alarmed It is Just the band working on their new facmgs For the last two weeks the Bobcat Band has been drilling on new pointers learned attending band school 1n Canyon thus summer 'lwventy eight students from Dxmmitt attended this school Marching instructor was Jack Lee from the University of Arizona The band hopes to spot light during halftime performan ces at the football games this season Enrqllment in band this year is seventy two but only approx lmately sixty are in' the marching band. The band thought they would be working under a handicap this year due to graduation of Kay Bearden but Jerry Vandiver has proved himself quite capable f filling the place as drum major. The drum major majorette, Mary Ann Witt, should know a lot of new stunts this year, because both took' instruction from Ted Otis, drum major in the movie STARS AND STRIPES FOREVER. Let'so all support the Bobcat Band. W Moy Band Performs AI WT McMurry The Bobcat band was guest a the Amarillo Tri State Palr Sat urday September 26 They playec a concert in fxont of the Sport Arena That afternoon the band went to Canyon where they were vlted to perform at the football game between West T xas State and McMurry Before the game the West Texas State band and the Bobcat band marched out on the field together and played the National Anthem The Dnmmitt band performed at the halftime in the absence of the McMurrv ban The band has really had a busy week The performance at Can yon was the favorite one of this week Bond invited To Lubbock Contest Dimmitts High School Band has been 1nv1ted to enter the first annual band contest t the Pan handle South Plains Fair in Lub- bock according to information re- ceived this week As another innovation m thus years s1x day fair we are plan ning a band contest on the epen- mg day Sept 28 Charles L Adams Jr president of the fair association reported ,,.f-, 5,
