Many people came to room 505 sixth hour thinking it was going to be easy. The Explorer staff found out it's a lot of hard work, but some fun as well. The year started off slowly, but as the year went on they were proud to say they were a part of the Explorer Staff. Many of the new journalism students were very ambitious and hard working. Duties of the staff were interview- ing, writing, typing, designing lay- out pages and proof reading. They also tried to sell ads to local busi- nesses. There were 25 students on the newspaper staff. The Co-edi- tors of the Explorer were Heather Bopp and Karena Titmarsh. To get an editor's position one had to show responsibility, be willing to work hard, and to spend more than just one hour a day on your story. l'The newspaper is a lot of fun but also a lot of hard work. When l have the finished product in my hand, it is worth all the hard work commented Karena T itmarsh. It took a great deal of time to select what was to be written about. The staff tried to pick school activities that were fea- tured around Coronado's school campus that would not be old news by the time the paper came out. They used Webcrafters of Tempe as a new printer last year. I hope that the newspaper is better this year because we had our ups and downs last year. lf Karena and l put our heads to- gether we can make the paper bet- ter so we can keep the majority of the students interested in the Ex- plorer, commented Heather Bopp. 88 Newspaper LOOKING AT THE first issue of the Explor er is Karena Titmarsh. That was a task for the pho- tographers, because they were all very inexperienced, there were no returning pho- tographers. Some of them were familiar with darkroom techniques, while they lacked experience on our campus or with some of the different kinds of cameras that they had to use. The photographers were very dedicated and eager to learn. They spent long hours developing film, making copy sheets, printing pictures, and of course taking pictures. Many of those hours were during free hours, weekday nights, and weekend after- noons. The photographers were: Carrie Davis, Photo Editor, Bill Brovm, Melissa Benner, Neil Schockner, David Lewis and Brian Baribeau. 'lEven though the photog- raphers had problems all year long, we still had fun, said Bill Brown. DURING A WORKNIGHT, Head Pho- tographer Carrie Davis shows the feelings that every staffer and pho- tographer feels at one time or an- other. 90 425322
