We g::5:aE:,3:, ., ::.,.,,:..:..:. ......., . me 222 M m r lt is important for students to get involved in foreign language outside the classroom, said Wil- liam Travnikoff. Some of more en- thusiastic German students plan to add to their CHS German exper- ience by taking a trip to Germany during the summer. They got their German background by participat- ing in the new club sponsored by Travnikoff. These members gained appreciation for the Ger- man culture by dining at German restaurants, preparing German food and listening to guest speak- ers. While the German club mem- bers were able to order their food in German, the French club mem- bers had a hard time finding wait- ers that knew French. They also attended The Miser produced at Mesa Community College. Senior Joel Keuster who was one of the students who founded Les Copains, said, French club is dedicated to spreading the French language and culture on campus, I'm very pleased with our enormous success. The foreign language club that was the most popular was the Spanish Honor Society. Founded in December 1979, this club was sponsored by Elizabeth Gorsuch until Diane Szary took over in 1985. The SNHS members visited Puerto Vallarta, Mexico to exper- ience actually using a foreign lan- guage outside of their classroom. FRESHMAN MICHELLE ELEK learns French culture from her workbook. fliuqtbeuvll Lug owbook By Shiela K. Byrd C-C-Catch Coronado was the theme for the 1986-87 yearbook. Staffers were fairly new with ten re- turning experienced staffers. l'This year we worked with an extremely large staff. We had al- most forty people in the room everyday, and it was difficult to get everyone organized and working together. But when we finally did, we found out that we had a lot of cooperative people on staff, stat- ed Faith Duff, yearbook advisor. Many long hours were spent to put out the book. Worknights held towards the end of the deadline were very busy for the staff. ln class, staffers drew layouts and wrote stories. Yearbook had to organize underclass picture days and also sponsored the Jr.- Sr. Prom Royalty. To help with the costs of sup- plies, the book itself and journal- ism camps, the club held fund- raisers. Car washes brought in a lot of money and also provided the time to get together and relax.
