MW By May of 1986, 24 students had been accepted into Coronado's only audition-only vocal per- forming group. The Advanced Choral Ensem- ble, or ACE as it is commonly known, took on a new dimension in the 1986-87 school year. The main cause for the major change in ACE was Miss Leighanne Sim- mers, the group's new director. Miss Simmers dedicated herself to helping ACE uphold its reputation. The year began with extensive preparation for the Holiday sea- son. ln addition to frequent re- hearsals and meetings, ACE scheduled over 20 performances in December. Hot only did ACE perform to become known around the community, they also per- formed to raise funds for the tradi- tional Spring Break Tour of Califor- nia. ACE raised over S600 through performances, and held many oth- er fund-raisers as well. A big mon- ey-maker during the holidays was the sale of ACE carols. ACE sold over 250 carols which were deliv-' ered on the last day of school be- fore Winter Break. ln March, ACE performed Let's Cro To The Movies, a full concert of movie show tunes, and traveled to California, making stops at Dis- neyland and Hard Rock Cafe. Clos- ing out the year ACE performed their Senior Farewell concert, and Miss Simmers auditioned students to become members of ACE for the next year. tilt has been a fan- tastic year, and l know that Miss Simmers will continue to build up ACE until it's back where it be- longs - at the top , voiced ACE President Doreen Henderson.
