Special Events JUNIOR TAKE-OFF, APRIL 23 This annual take-off certainly fulfilled the dreams of even the most excessive imbiber of opium. The program began when the faculty marched in, in irreg- ular order. Lieutenant Rogers Freed took command and after a weird roll call shot a rapid-fire quiz at the pedagogues. Virginia Corbett Collopy was the first victim. It was the Dean of Women ' s duty to give the position of a soldier. This she did very efficiently in the following manner: Heels on the same straight line as the head and as near together as the infirmity of the man permits. Knees stiff without straightness. Hips lifted and arched. Trousers resting equally upon hips. Arms gravitating normally from shoulders. Eyes drawn in and looking backwards. Just then Captain Be-vawn ' s wrist alarm clock announced it was time to do something, and general order No. 9999 was read, notifying Private Charlie Lory that he had 17 minutes of drill to be made up some time before Friday, Jan. 29, 2087. After this the faculty sat down for their usual beauty nap. President C. Lory Adams occupied the rostrum. Concluding a fine patriotic speech the hon- orable president said : Now, children, since this is a student body affair, I will call for a vote on whether or not we will pe-rade down town. Ah, yes, I can tell by the looks on your faces you are eager to go. Therefore we ' ll pe-rade rain or shine. A bugle blast aroused Oldoc Whitehouse from his lethargy and he sped down the center aisle in search of trouble. Dr. Gillette then announced the election of Charlie Lory and Sammie John- son to the Zeta Alpha sorority, a national organization for race betterment. Professor Scott Emslie then entertained by a few contortionistic dances and a few verses of song. The song was certainly the work of a master. The chorus went something like this : Mercuric ammonium chloride. Para formaldehyde Sacharum saturni, Ozone, nucleus-protein Nux vomica, Sodium chloride quimoline. Page Tii-o hundred twenty-tiuo
