Central was one of the hrst schools to take up this new idea. The purpose of school savings is to promote thrift habits. Central has a very capable system by which weekly banking is carried on. A cashier for each advisory is chosen by either the students or the adviser. From this group of cashiers a board of directors is selected, composed of two Seniors, two Iuniors, two 'KAN Sophomores, and two students from the group at large. A president, a vice-president, and a secretary are elected by the board. Vacancies on the board caused by graduation are filled by appointments made by the remaining members. The board meets twice a month, and discusses ways and means of improving the eHi- ciency of the cashiers and promoting banking generally. All the cashiers meet only when the board of directors deems it necessary. Miss Iohnston is the faculty adviser for the cashiers. A new system of banking was installed in 1931, now no less than ten cents may be banked at a time. This is to insure against a person banking a penny or two just to give his room one hundred per cent. Although it does cut down the percentage of the school, it encourages better thrift habits. But, in spite of its name, there were only eight members. The following year a campaign for members was held, and twenty students joined. A new simple name was adopted, and contests were held with chess clubs of other schools. But this club did not last. For several years Central had no club for students interested in the game, but in 1931, the Chess-Nutsn were organized. Now, in the second year of existence, the club has about forty members, and meets every Tuesday in the lunch room. Again contests are being held with clubs in other schools. All Central students are eligible. Miss Hutchinson is the faculty adviser for this new club. CHESS Cl,1,iB-F11-'IH Row: 0'Toof1, Saflnfxs, .1lI1IIIlI', llkirzxozz, Sr1'arz'i1f, Hllizi, Ifnrris, R.
