A three- fold purpose was chosen: To establish greater facilities for the students to become acquainted with the literature of Sweden. to give the opportunity to practice conversa- tion, and to promote a feeling of good fellowship among the members of the Swedish classes. In the Centralian of 1916 we find a record of the Viking Club, founded in 1914 for the purpose of making the students of Norwegian more familiar with the lan- guage and the people. and to study the customs, history, and literature of Norway. In 1921. students of Norwegian and Swedish united to form the Scandinavian Club, but in 1924, this club became too large. Therefore. we again find two clubs, the Norse Club and the Gotha Club, for students of Norwegian and Swedish respectively. Finally. in 192N, the present Scandinavian Club was organized. During the passing of the years. the purpose of the original Swedish Club was not lost and today the members of the present club are living up to it. Un November 16, a big mid-year program was held. Dr. Bryn Iones was the principal speaker of the evening. :Xt other meetings this past year. men who have traveled in Norway have given lectures and exhibited pictures taken there. Mr. Erdahl, teacher of the Scandinavian languages here at Central. has been faculty adviser for the club for several years. The club purposed to cultivate free usage of the Spanish lan- guage and to make Spanish places, people, and customs familiar to all members. In the Centralian of 1919 we find mention of another Spanish Club, the 6'Hispania, which was formed in Ianuary. In 1926 still another club, Los Castellanosf' sprang up. Now, in 1935, the Spanish Club has about forty members and meets the third Tuesday of every month. All the business meetings have been conducted in Spanish. Spanish games are played, Spanish songs are sung, and Spanish skits are given dur- ing the meetings. Five dollars was given to the Ida V. Probett Fund.
