BELV!-1938 JIM, IN MANUAL TRAINING CLASS. JA IN VVe are back at school after our weelis vacation. It isn't a blue Monday either, for everyone has something to tell someone else about Christmas and vacation. -The oflicers of the G. A. A. met after school today. Wonder what's up? -We know now-the G. A. A. are initiating their new members today. -The seniors were measured for their caps and gowns today. This was a gentle reminder that our school days will be ending all too soon. -We had a real lively pep assembly -Mr. Walburg, Safety Engineer, Division of the Illinois State High- ix ays, talked to the student body today. He also showed a moving picture called'lCrimeNeverPays The ollicers of the B club met tonight. Are they Manning their initiation, too? -The G. A. A. girls still early birds. T' 3 volleyball tournament continues each morning before school. CONCENTRATION ON TYPING. PHYSICS CLASS HARD AT WORK. 13-The Bel-Hi Nawf was issued today. I4-Another B club meeting today. Initiation must be coming-F I7-At last the HBH club initiation has arrived! The members and the rest of the school enjoyed the antics and the costumes of the new members. -We were the guests of the Wo- man's Club at a program at the Apollo Theater today. -The linal games of the girlls volleyball tournament were play- ed tonight. What games! -We had a pep meeting tonight. -Exams begin! -Exams continue! -Exams end! ! ! 31-This is the first day of the second semester. Such questions as VVhere do I go next are heard everywhere-and from upper classmen as well as freshmen. New courses are being olfered, and schedules are being changed so that everything is topsy-turvy.

BELV!-1938 A DEMONSTRATION IN GENERAL SCIENCE LUELLA AND FERN HARD AT WTORK' -just plain school today. -Night school classes started to- night. Commercial subjects are being offered besides courses in wood-Work, art, photography, and dancing. Mr. E. C. Foley, Boone County Farm Adviser, talked to the student body today. The G. A. A. volleyball tourna- ment started today. The junior and senior girl scouts met tonight. A beauty operator talked about that vocation. Plenty of pep was displayed at a pep assembly today. A typical Monday-nothing happened outside of the regular school routine. lVlore volleyball games! How the girls do enjoy getting to school by 7:30 in the morning! -There is much activity around school today. The football ban- quet is planned for tonight by the Booster Club. -Every one appearing at school with a cold is sent home. DECEMBER I7- VVe were all primed for our basketball game with Dixon to- night, but the game had to be postponed because of the roads. So after school We Watched a game between the Hlightsi' and the heavies. The heavies Won. The girls' glee club sang Christ- mas songs for the student body today. This was their first ap- pearance in the high school audi- torium, and their concert was very much appreciated. Wie all sang Christmas carols today under the direction of lX'Iiss Champlin. VVe enjoyed another program planned by Nliss Champlin. The first grade pupils of Perry school formed a human Christmas tree, and could they sing! Another Christmas program. This one was given by pupils from the Washington school under the direction of Miss Champlin. These programs have added a lot to our enjoyment this Week. Christmas vacation started today. Christmas!

It was announced that report cards would not be given out until tomorrow. -The juniors have started their annual magazine drive. They have divided the class into two teams. The junior teams, the blues and the reds, had meetings today to plan their drives. -The Bel-Hi Nfwr staff started their subscription drive for the second semester. In an assembly program today, we had Edgar Bergen and Charlie McCarthy with us. Edgar Bergen looked a lot like David List and Charlie sounded like Bob Kiester. -The BK!-Hi Newf dance was given in the corridor after school. lWelvyn Peterson, Doris Smith, and Bernice Whitchurch sang for us. -During our home room period today, we all met in the assembly for a pep meeting. -Valentine's Dayl I5- 16- I7- I8- 19 Our basketball teams won two victories from DeKalb tonight. Such exciting games! A picture on soap carving was shown to us this morning. The girls' glee club offers delicious candy for sale. Another pep assembly to get enthusiasm aroused for our games with Sycamore. -Both games were won against Sycamore. The teams are to be congratulated. 22- The G. A. A. girls are practicing 25 28 for the basket shooting tourna- ment which comes off soon. Wie had a program hontfing Lincoln and Wiashington. -Last pep meeting of the year was held today. The teams have two games This week-end: one with Roc' and the other with X104 nrt. -A glee club for tl : boys is being organized-we are expecting to hear from this group soon.
