BELVI-1938 THE GANG- WE SHALL HAVE MUSlC'liEVEN ON THE FOOTBALL FIELD- LET Us IN ON IT! LIFE ISN'T JUST A BOWL OF CHERRIES, EH HERB? THE MOMENT BEFORE THE MARCH OCTOBER -The Bel-Hi Newx staff had their regular meeting after school. Our football squads journeyed to Dixon. The Bal-Hi Newf staff had a picnic after school. The sophomores are learning to write short stories in English class. The freshmen are having an opportunity to learn how to dance. A number are signing up for the newly organized dancing class. -At a class meeting, the juniors elected the following officers: pres- ident, Donald Woods, vice- president, Frank Garrigang sec- retary,MelvynPetersongtreasurer, Robert Greenhow. At our pep assembly today, we gave signs of developing some real school spirit. -The members of the Hi-Y had a potluck supper tonight at the Y. -It was announced that report cards would not be given out until further notice. lX4any gave sighs of relief. -A Booster Club meeting was held this morning, and the freshmen had a class meeting after school. we are busy these days! 26- 27- 28- 29- -The Booster Club sponsored an assembly program for us today. -We planted a memorial tree today in observance of the Sesquicen- tennial of the Constitution of the United States. -A barbecue sale was announced for after school, but the barbecues did not show up. -Ah! The barbecues appeared to- day, and they went like hot cakes. No gym classes for either the boys or the girls because decorations are under way for the senior reception. The junior and senior Girl Scouts met tonight after school. The seniors are beginning their annual trade of pictures. Wie had a motion picture in the assembly today to honor Theodore Roosevelt's birthday and to cele- brate Navy Day. The G. A. A. doughnut sale is launched. The teachers are attending a state teachers meeting in Freeport to- day, so we have no school. Tonite we had a big snake dance and parade and a football game with with DeKalb.

Ci BELVI-1938 NEED SOME STILTS, SNOOKY? LITTLE Bmnms PEEKING OUT OF THEIR CAGES- VAN DOESN'T NEED A PHGTOGRAPHER. AFTER THE PICTURES-THE MAD SCRAMBLE. SEPTEMBER First day of school! The fresh- men spent all day looking for classrooms and reporting to the same class more than once. We have a new schedule this year. Wie start school at 8:20, have five classes in the morning, and close at 3:20 in the afternoon. The freshmen are sure of the location of their classrooms by now, and everyone has begun studying in earnest. -Almost all the lockers have been given out, and piles of books are less conspicuous. A skit was given for the Bel- Hi Nawf by Bob Kiester, Luella Oakley, Betty Jane Meyers, and Melvyn Peterson. Posture pic- tures were also taken in the girls' gym classes. -Another skit was given this noon by some of the Bal-Hi News, staff. James VVylde, Bob Kiester and Winton lVlcKibben made excellent girls. Andyv and Fay Totz were in such a hurry to go down stairs that they thought falling down would save time. 17- 16-The new chorus class is now in progress. It meets every day during the sixth period. The freshman, sophomore, and junior pictures were taken today for the Bflvi. Bruce Churchill gave a talk in the assembly today in honor of Constitution Day. 20-A safe-driving class has been started. Only three girls have enrolled. What's the matter, girls? 21-The members of the G. A. A. had a hike last night, and a grand time was had by all. First fire drill. 22-The seniors elected their officers today. The following were elect- ed: president, Winton McKibbeng Vice-President, Richard Blunt, secretary, Vivian Blackledgeg treasurer, Richard Law. 23-ThC Booster Club sponsored a music program today. 241A silent film on the life of George VVashington was shown in the assembly today. 27-The first Sunset dance of the year was held tonight after school. -The freshmen were initiated into high school. The program was in charge of the Booster Club.

BELVI-1938 IN 'rl-In LIBRARYYHARD AT W0RK?? TVYLLADINE, ONE OF OUR EFFICIEN1' IABRARIANS NOVEMBER The G. A. A. doughnut sale is on. Everyone is doughnut conscious. -The social dancing class in in progress. This class is very pop- ular with the freshmen. The Hi-Y boys went to a meeting in Rockford tonight. There was a dance in the gym tonight for the benefit of the band. New suits are being planned for this group, and they hope to have them early in the spring. Another day off-the teachers are having a visiting day, and some have gone to the high school conference in Urbana. The Hi-Y boys had another bean feed tonight at the Y. NI. C. A. -Nlovies of all the schools and classes in progress were taken last week and were shown at the high school to-night to the public. This program was in observance of National Education VVeek. -Armistice Dayl We observed the occasion by having a holiday. Vivian Blackledge was chosen as the Belvidere High School rep- resentative in the D. A. R. good citizenship contest. I7- The junior and senior G. A. A. girls met tonight to plan a party for the freshmen and sophomore members. The underclassmen won out in the doughnut sale contest. We had a picture shown today in the assembly on the salmon in- dustry in Alaska. -The senior rings are on display. Are we thrilled? -The first snow of the season has arrived. VVe have to be re- minded that those who must throw snow balls must do so in places other than school property. -We are looking forward to our turkey dinner Thursday- -Today we fast-for tomorrow is Thanksgiving. -Thanksgiving! A holiday and turkey! -No school today. We need this day off to take care of the rest of the turkey. -The G. A. A. doughnut party was held in the gym tonight. 30-Only twenty-five days until Christ- mas! We are all writing letters to Santa Claus.
