E VERY school-day brings old pals, new pals — some we know well, others not at all — but friendly all, in the good old Austin Spirit. z X.-

MAROON AND WHITE CLASS OF 19351 2 Seated high on his throne, Johnny Mesch, the Sultan of the Class of ' 351 2, ' ooks down on his court. Surrounding him is the harem consisting of hielen Olsen, Clarice Matzen, Millie hlodge, Mary Jane Jackson, and Anite Andri. The Sultan claps his hands, and behold! music from the flute of George Jorgenson issues forth as the favorite dancers, Marie hHall, Merna Peters, Betty Koch, and Bette hlurlbut strut their stuff. Surrounding the throne of his highness are the counsellors. Bob Taylor, Dawn Idarlus, Nancy Church, and Ai Katallo. But let us wander thru some of the rooms. Ah, here is a strange sight. The altar of sacrifice with none other than Ben Kelly, Lord High Executioner standing with a pen poised high in the air ready for any victim. Sitting next to him with a benign expression on his face is George Cooper, the high priest of the court, surrounded by a bevy of eastern belles, among whom can be recognized Jean Stoeffhaas, Eleanor Horsrud, Betty Metropolis and Dorothy Clarence. All about on the prayer rugs, knitted by the skillful hands of Shirley Satin, can be seen the slave girls who in spite of their veils can be recognized as Blanche Mattson, Adele Olson, Phyllis Warren, Evelyn Van RIet and Lucille Planing. Romping here and there among the slaves and jingling his bells is Rocco Padula, dressed In an Oriental jester ' s suit. But hark! What Is that noise? The sound of horses ' hoofs, and with a whoop a a band of sheiks, led by Joe Caprlo and Anthony Delgeorge, sweep down upon the village. Their attack is short lived, however, and soon they are subdued and taken prisoners. At close range the rest of the sheiks can be recognized as Jimmy Mayer, George Greig, Louie Rissetto, Carl Ander and Jack Swain. The guards are a kind- hearted bunch, however, and soon engage their prisoners In an exciting game of Arabian Ping Pong. But lo! night is drawing close and soon we must return to our camp on the edge of the Austin desert. So with a fond farewell we bid goodbye to the Sultan, the harem, the guard, the sheiks (ah! especially the sheiks), the Lord hHIgh Executioner, the high priest, the eastern society belles, the slave girls, the royal cooks, the jester, the enter- tainers, and last but not least, the royal cheer leader. As we are on our way out we meet another group of tourists on their way in. Acquaintances are renewed with George Dirinden, Sheldon Glassberg, Myrtle Roland, Elsa Hansen and Irma Horsteln. After leaving these Austinltes we enter our camp just as the last bit of sun streaks the sky, and high above us In the gleaming white turret can be heard the voice of the high priest calling out the words of the prayer: Chicago is most great — and Austin Is its prophet.
