Coach Black's Last Year Proves Successful Highlights of the season were when the locals broke a 3-3 tie with eight runs in a big fifth inn- ing and went on to route Hollidaysburg 12-3 at Mansion Park for the fifth straight win of the season. The team also blanked Clearfield 1-0 as Bill Williams bested Irwin Curley in a brilliant pitch- ing duel. Right fielder Bob McMinn provided Williams with the only run he needed by whack- ing a homer in the first inning. The pitching staff had a good season with Hess pitching 6 winning 5, Williams pitching 5 with 3 victories, and Wood pitching and winning 2. Fourth row: Dietze, Paul, Hess, Williams, Hansard, Robison. 46'a1m6alL The '59 edition of the Altoona High baseball team made a fast start into the new season by reeling off nine straight victories before dropping one to Johnstown. The Elephants suffered their second defeat in as many days by bowing to Mercersburg Academy in a close game with a score of 9-8 in an eight-inning contest. Then Al- toona came back with a 4-2 win over Johnstown at Mansion Park. Power hitting by third base- man Bob Hansard and air-tight pitching by south- paw Dick Hess paced Altoona High to the win. lt was the 10th win in 12 starts for Altoona and was undoubtedly the most pleasing victory The Coaches: Mr. Norman Furrer, Dr. Hugh Black, Mr. Herbert Bolger. of the season for the Elephants because the pre- vious week the Trojans had ended the local's nine-game winning streak at Johnstown. The Elephants then dropped one to Hunting- don, but come back to put the top on its 1959 baseball season with a 5-2 win over Kiski Prep at home. The victory enabled the Elephants to close with a highly respectable 11-3 record under Coach Hugh Black. Other victories were at Cresson and Wind- ber's expenses with double victories over Holli- daysburg, Kiski Prep, Clearfield, and Indiana. Pitcher Hess plays peek-a-boo with batter. 146 ,MJ

The charges of Coach Dallas Webb felt the might of an experienced Lock Haven wrestling team in their first match of the season, with only two Altoona grapplers breaking into the scoring column, Frank Rhone and Don Miller. Next, the Altoona matmen scored a parade of falls to win their second match of the season at the expense of Morrison Cove, 57-i2. The Lions racked up seven falls, two decisions and one forfeit in turning back the Cove matmen. Ed Flanagan of Altoona registered the quickest The Coaches: Mr. Dallas Webb, Mr. Ronald Rickens. fall of the evening when he flipped his opponent in 20 seconds of the first period. Frank Rhone and Don Miller kept their undefeated slates clean, both scoring falls. The Altoona High wrestling team closed out its regular season with a 30-i2 victory over Cresson on the losers' home mat. It was the third win in eight straight for the Lion grapplers. Coach Webb's most consistent wrestlers were: Roy Smith, Richard Graffius, John Robertson, Dick Williams, and Frank Rhone. Graffius mixes it up with a Morrison Cove player. if
