Wallace begins revolutionary corn breeding work. 1926 Pioneer Hi-Bred Corn Company founded by Henry A. Wallace, F. W. Lehman, Jr., J. J. Newlin, James W. Wallace, Simon Casady, Jr., and a few other friends. Today, Pioneer brand seed corn is sold in all the corn producing areas of the U. S. as well as in Germany, France, Spain, the Netherlands, Portugal, and Canada. 1940 First Hy-Line chicks sold in Iowa. Today, Hy-Line chicks are marketed in 55 countries. More Hy-Line chicks are sold than any other brand of layer -type chicks. 1960 First Pioneer brand sor- ghum seed sold. Pioneer Sor- ghum Company formed in Plainview, Texas, in 1962 as a department of the Pioneer Hi-Bred Corn Company. 1962 Indian River Poultry Farms becomes a depart- mentof the Pioneer company. Indian River cockerels sire broiler chicks for producers in the U. S., Canada, and South and Central America. 1963 First Pioneer brand alfalfa seed sold. Bred by the Arnold-Thomas Seed Service in Fresno, California, in co- operation with the Pioneer Hi-Bred Corn Company.
